My experience is that counselling is a way of stepping back and getting space from difficulties when we feel stuck, despairing, overwhelmed or out of control. Rather like a guide who can help us navigate uncharted waters or foreign lands; my work is to support you in finding ways to explore difficult areas of your life such as painful emotions, bereavement, questions of identity, relationship issues, abuse and trauma to enable you to find a way through and discover your own answers and wisdom.
The foundation of my work is a belief that people know what they need to lead happier, more balanced lives, but have often lost touch with themselves and their own wisdom; living according to who they think they should be rather than who they really are. As a result people are often left with a sense of disconnection or emptiness leading to depression or a loss of meaning and purpose.
My interest is to assist people in discovering why they may be making choices or behaving in ways that make them unhappy. This often involves becoming aware of old coping mechanisms and adaptations that may have been needed in the past but which are now limiting or harmful.
Through the experience of being held and supported in a warm, safe environment in which you will not be judged, you will be given the opportunity to explore different ways of being and find a deeper sense of yourself and your inner truth.
The term Gestalt means ‘whole’ and is a holistic, experiential approach, working with becoming aware of what is happening in the moment in one’s body, feelings and mind rather than just talking ‘about’ the issues and being limited to an intellectual understanding.
My aim is to provide a safe, supportive environment in which you feel able to explore difficult issues as well as new ways of being, without being judged.
I have worked as a counsellor in a variety of settings including the NHS, charities and private practise. I have a background in nursing with over 20 years experience working in the health sector. I still work as a palliative carse nurse as well as maintaining my private counselling practise.
It was through my own personal experience of receiving counselling and the value it brought to my life that led me to train as a counsellor.
Experience working with art and sand tray therapy – I enjoy using these mediums as a creative way of working with people.
I charge £40 per session with concessionary rates available for those on a low income.
