PLEASE NOTE THAT MIRANDA BARLOW IS ABOUT TO GO ON MATERNITY LEAVE AND IS THEREFORE NOT TAKING ON NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME.
Miranda works in a Person Centred way to underpin her work with clients. This means that clients have ownership of the session and are free to explore, in their own time, the issues that they are facing. This often enables the client to find their own resolution / solutions. Miranda feels that having a safe, trusting, non-judgemental, confidential relationship and environment is intrinsic to being able to explore these issues.
Miranda does not offer to fix problems her clients are facing – she listens and hears them and trusts in her clients’ ability to find their own way through, knowing that having someone listen to you in this way can be very healing on its own.
Miranda works with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety – including OCD and other anxiety related issues, stress, loss, redundancy, bereavement, relationship issues (although she does not undertake Couples Counselling at this time).
In addition Miranda uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques in sessions when appropriate and with the agreement of the client. CBT looks at how people think, feel and behave and explores the link between them. This approach helps clients to understand current thought patterns. In particular, to identify any unhelpful thoughts which can lead in turn to difficult emotions and behaviours. The aim then becomes enabling the client to change their patterns of thinking to help feelings and behaviour become more manageable.
Miranda occasionally uses Psychodynamic techniques as well as Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt techniques when appropriate. Sometimes (if the client feels comfortable with it) Miranda enables clients to use writing and drawing in sessions to help express what they are feeling.
Miranda’s fees reflect the fact that although she is fully qualified she is currently working towards accreditation and therefore, her fees are set at a lower rate and are £25.00 – £35.00 (negotiable between that range based on what people feel they can afford), per hour for each session.
Therapy sessions usually take place at the same time each week.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If clients are unable to attend an appointment please let Miranda know as soon as possible. If clients have to cancel within 24 hours of their appointment the full fee can still be charged.
